In January 2023, Brussels’ legendary techno club Fuse was forced into temporary closure following noise-related complaints and regulatory pressure. The shutdown sent shockwaves through Brussels’ nightlife ecosystem: a symbol of European club culture suddenly silent, dozens of jobs at risk, and international media questioning the future of nightlife in the capital.
The situation quickly escalated into a broader debate on the coexistence of nightlife, urban living, and cultural policy — and the need for a modern, coherent regulatory framework.

Bringing all key actors to the table
Alongside the Night Council, Brussels By Night immediately initiated a Task Force, gathering all essential stakeholders involved in the conflict: ministers and political representatives, regional and municipal administrations, club owners and nightlife operators, experts in urban planning, sound management, and mediation…
For the first time, all parties were aligned around the same table, enabling transparent dialogue and accelerating the search for concrete solutions.
Mobilising public support: 70,000 signatures
We launched a public petition calling for the protection of nightlife culture and a fair, balanced approach to noise regulations.
Within days, it gathered over 70,000 signatures, becoming one of the most visible cultural mobilisations in recent Brussels history.
Raising massive awareness online
Through coordinated communication across social media, nightlife networks, and press outreach, we amplified the issue beyond the clubbing community.
Fuse’s closure became a national conversation, with international echoes, strengthening political pressure and framing the debate around cultural rights, urban diversity, and the economic value of nightlife.
